Our Story

At The Marian Anderson, we pride ourselves on being a cornerstone of the community. With a rich history and a passion for great food and drink, we aim to create memorable experiences for all our guests.


Just south of Exmouth Market, The Marian Anderson is a cozy pub with history, a 10-minute walk from Farringdon Station. Built in 1851 as The Surprise, it now honors Marian Anderson, the legendary contralto and civil rights icon.


Inside, three inviting rooms blend traditional charm with rustic, contemporary touches—parquet floors, classic seating, and a striking cloud mural ceiling. The bar offers top-notch London brews, cask ales, Pravha, Guinness and House larger at £4 a pint. and all others £5.50 - £6.


Warm hospitality makes every visit feel like home. Stop by for great beer, tasty food, and a welcoming atmosphere!
