At the Marian Anderson, we pride ourselves on being a cornerstone of the community. With a rich history and a passion for great food and drink, we aim to create memorable experiences for all our guests.
When we opened our doors in Clerkenwell, we wanted a name that meant something — something that carried soul, history, and community.
Marian Anderson was one of the most extraordinary voices of the 20th century — a trailblazing American contralto whose talent and grace broke through barriers of race and prejudice. In 1939, when she was denied the chance to sing at a concert hall because of her skin colour, she performed instead on the steps of the Lincoln memorial — to a crowd of 75,000 and millions listening on the radio.
Her story isn't just about music — it's about courage, inclusion, and dignity.
We dedicated our pub in her name as we want to carry that same spirit.
A place where everyone feels welcome.
A space that celebrates character, community, and good company.
A reminder that even small spaces can hold big stories.
